In Southern Idaho, we only install closed-cell foam. It has a higher R-value per inch, adds structural rigidity, and creates an air, vapor, and moisture barrier in one application, which matters given how much our winters and summers swing here. Open-cell has its place in some climates, but we generally don't offer it as a residential option in this region.
